Summertiiiiiiiiime, and the Pantry is busy… busy HAVING FUN, that is! Our weekly vegetable distributions kicked off last week, with plenty of fresh rhubarb, salad greens and herbs to go around.

Grace did an amazing job of harvesting and making everything look beautiful; they also had a ton of additional information resources at their table!

The Pantry will continue to distribute fresh produce in the University Center every Wednesday from 11am — 1pm throughout the growing season. These distributions are free and open to all. Come see us this Wednesday for some fresh chives, dill, arugula and more!

In other news, ASUM Bear Necessities is currently seeking a Program Coordinator. This position will report to the ASUM Bear Necessities Director (and ASUM co-personnel supervisors) and will serve as an important part of our direct student services. Based in the UM Food Pantry, this new staff member will be instrumental in both streamlining and expanding programming offered by ASUM Bear Necessities and the Food Pantry. This work will include providing application assistance for students interested in SNAP and other federal assistance programs, as well as increasing hours and availability of free food distribution to UM students.

ASUM Bear Necessities provides support for students living through or on the edge of basic needs insecurity by connecting them with badly-needed resources and helping to determine priorities and next steps. Bear Necessities also advocates for systemic change in order to prevent students from experiencing basic needs insecurity in the future.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in developing skills pertaining to case management and nonprofit development. Applications for this position will be accepted until July 7th. Click here to learn more & apply!

Lastly, a friendly reminder that our summer fundraising campaign is happening NOW through July 4th. We are raising funds to support operations throughout the calendar year. While summer is a time to enjoy all that Montana has to offer, many folks on campus & in our community are still struggling to afford food and other necessities. With fewer donations coming in during summer months, the UM Pantry continues to receive visits from 20+ households each day. Please consider supporting our campaign to promote food justice & access for all!
